$140The Kayano’s midsole/outersole is well-tuned for its intended audience of moderate overpronators. The high-quality foams and large rubber parts attenuate shock very well – but they do so without making the shoe feel at all unstable underfoot. Heel-to-toe transition is smooth. The upper tries to do the same: provide a comfortable, relaxed fit while still keeping the foot firmly centered on the shoe. Testers were mixed on whether the unique asymmetric lacing system was better than the traditional design. Some noted that it ensured that the top of the shoe didn’t fold down onto the top of the foot during toe-off. Others worried that it would make replacing laces more difficult. Lacing tests revealed that it is quite difficult to re-lace and end up with the same amount of lace left on each side. The Kayano’s heel counter fits snugly from the back of the heel to just before the midfoot.
