Injury Marathon with a stress fracture?

3 days ago my doctor diagnosed me with stress fractures on my 4th and 5th metatarsals. (At her advise I haven't run since then but I am going crazy!) In 5 1/2 weeks I am planning on doing my first marathon and I was doing well with the training program until this "setback". Has anyone run a marathon with a stress fracture before? Advise? I don't know what to do. I have been looking so forward to this race. I know I can do it and it is breaking my heart to consider not going through with it.

Additional information:
28, female, healthy (though I don't sleep enough and drink too much caffiene)
First marathon, have completed 1/2's
Not looking to break any records but just to do it and not suck
I train my short runs with a double jogger but do my longest runs without
I really really really really want to do this race!
The race course is relatively flat and will be on pavement the whole way
I can be very detirmined (three drug free births, now that's intense.... and amazing)
Although I want to do this race I have kids ages 1, 3, and 5 that do not provide a lifestyle condusive to healing broken bones so I would prefer not to be on crutches to start off our summer
The Dr. I saw was not a sports dr. and I don't think she understood my desperation
Most likely I can't get in to see a sports doctor before the race

Help help! I'm torn.

Hello,

I was injured two months ago after doing a 25K. The problem was I was having this tingling sensation on my lower leg leg (calf area) whenever I apply pressure to it (one legged squat for example) I had to take a break from running for almost two months to rest it and it seemed to have healed.

Yesterday I did a half marathon and completed it in slower pace. Nothing major bothered me after the race but this morning I'm feeling the same sensation of tingling and weakness on the same leg. I'm not sure it is muscular since I rolled my calf with a foam roller and it usually does a good job pointing out a sored muscle area.

I don't want to get sidelined since I will be training for a 50K the end of the month and I have 3 marathons planned. I appreciate all the inputs!!!

Hey guys and gals,

My first post here and unfortunately its injury related. As most of you know, the minimalist craze has swept the world and I have converted to the practice of minimalist running. I did a decent amount of research before switching completely to minimalist running, i.e. slow transition, shorter miles, etc. However, after weeks of feeling great in the shoes and working my way up to a 10k my achilles locked up on me this past Monday. By locked up I mean it just tightened up and was a little sore after I stopped. Indeed I did stop to prevent any further damage. Has anyone else had a similar situation? If so, what did you do for recovery? How long did you take off? I'm dying to run again after a week of cross training and cycling.

Thanks,

T.

Hey guys,

My name is Andrei and I'm one of the founders of RUNNR.ME - we are trying to make the next generation running sensor.
Instead of looking just at high level metrics we want to actually tell you where on your foot you're landing (heel vs toe strike) and how far apart your strides are. We give you live feedback directly through your headphones so you can adjust and improve while you run.

If you have a second, take a look at http://runnr.me and let us know what you think - we are trying to figure out what runners would be willing to pay for this so we know if its economically viable.

Thanks!

Hello All! Long story short... I have been training since Feb for the KDF Marathon on April 28 (this coming Saturday ). About 6 days ago, I strained an adductor muscle in my left leg. I saw my sports dr and pt. Both think I will be able to run, although it may hurt some....
However, this isn't my first marathon by any means, and I was planning on getting my BQ (3:34:00).
I don't know whether to chance it and run...and possible have to stop or something.
OR wait until May 20th and run The Qualifier in MI.
It is still a bit sore to walk and some movements cause discomfort. A short, easy 4 mile run last nite went....ok. It took quite a bit to get that muscle to loosen up and after that it was more of a nagging pain then actual pain.
I am just so torn....up until this I was primed to get my time. Now ... well, honestly, I am in panic mode.
Any advice? I am doing everything drs have told me...
Thanks!

    Hello,
I am a dietetics graduate student at Eastern Illinois University. This up and coming summer I will be conducting a major research study. I am seeking female runners who are currently training for a full marathon that is scheduled for late June or early July.
I am reviewing the dietary adequacy of female recreational marathon runners. If you are interested in receiving a free nutritional analysis and participating in my study please contact me at marathonrd@gmail.com

You will be required to keep four week food and exercise journal.
You will then email your data to me and I will analyze it. The nutritional analysis will be used in my study and I will also share your personal results with you.
All data used in the study will remain anonymous

Just email me to receive more details.

Hello....

So I'm running the Toronto Marathon on May 6. I am planning on staying in the city for about a month (I am also running Ottawa Marathon on May 27; if anyone is driving from Toronto and would like to carpool, I'd love to tag along).

Anyway, since I'm staying for a month, I'm looking for budget-friendly accommodations, which are hard to find downtown in Toronto (not having a car makes being downtown a necessity for me, I'd like to be within walking distance of the YMCA). I guess I'm sending this out as a last-shot effort here; does anyone know anyplace or anybody who would be willing to rent out a room to me from May - mid June? As I said, I'm on a serious budget and can't afford anything fancy, but I can help with cleaning, errands, etc. Let me know if this might be something you could do.

Thank you!

My 8th grade daughter has been fast-tracked to the varsity track team for the mile and 800. She's loves it, but is having some serious lower inside-calf pain.

She's qualified in the top three for the state meet in both events later this week, but i'm worried about this pain.

It's most prevalent during her workouts.

The pain started when she switched to the Brooks Pure Cadence recently. She has a neutral foot strike and long, lanky feet with low arches.

Any ideas about a correlation between the shoes and the pain?

Any ideas about how to best treat the pain in the short term?

Thx
